cook as directed in Master Dogen

Bernie Glassman, an aeronautical engineer who worked at McDonnell Douglas, and American Zen master, with a social commitment it takes to create the industrial confectionery Greyston, Greyston the Family Inn .. etc..

We give this book a manual of how to deal with special values from our social entrepreneurship projects.

This book has been an endless source of inspiration for Moltacte.

It is based on a text of great Master Dogen, "the instructions to cook"

"Clean the kitchen is clean spirit"
At this moment, we have before us everything we need to get started.
Usually, when we throw in a new project, either a new career, a new relationship or a new life, we are in a hurry.
We want to pull with all their might, and do anything, no matter what. But the cook knows that Zen can not prepare a meal if the kitchen is filled with dishes of the evening.
To distinguish the ingredients already available in our life, we make them a place.
Wash << "chopsticks", all the ladles and other utensils, Dogen recommended.
Manipulate them with the same care and vigilance, returning them to put in place >>
Always start cleaning. Even though the kitchen looks clean, we clean it again, every time we want there to prepare a new food ..
[...] Turns to cook and clean the whole environment and the people it is ..... "

"In the way of Zen chef, Beginner's Spirit includes three ingredients.
The three basic ingredients are in doubt, faith and determination.
They are like air, water and heat. Each is required to prepare a meal.
Doubt is a state of openness and ignorance.
It is accepted that you're not the master of the situation, not knowing what will happen.
The state allows us to explore questions of reality and open a new way.
[...] The problem is the question that is often considered as negative.
We imagine anything that does not revolve round whether or not we understand if you do not have the feeling of certainty. Dragged by the negative aspects of the doubt, we pity ourselves.
<< As I am unable to understand? >>
[...] Everything we know is a trap.
Everything we "know" leads us to look at ways of strengthening the belief that we are inflamed, or to limit the scope of what we could explorer

COMMERCIAL VALUES:  THE LAST PART OF THE PROCESS

- To create a unique unforgettable purchasing experience Moltacte develops a relationship with their clients based on concerns such as an authentic interest in listening, helping, advice, and treatment in which patience is always the focus.  We also want to differentiate ourselves from other options the public has because we are aware that this part of the process, the interaction with our clients, determines in great measure our values,  the future of our aspirations and the program itself.

  - The advantages of the Outlet formula. Moltacte adopted the Outlet formula because it has proven it can create commercial value. Most importantly it can create this value without devaluing the social origin of the project. The Outlet approach to selling products is associated with intelligent purchasing, and we want to reinforce this impression by always offering high quality products

SOCIAL VALUES: OUR ESSENCE

SOCIAL VALUES: OUR ESSENCE

- We integrate people and reinvent established social beliefs.

We believe in the capacity of one of the most stigmatized communities in our society; people with severe mental disorders. Their social integration can be achieved by utilizing their integration at work as a starting point. This is what   is vital to the development of Moltacte.

- We change mentalities and we offer opportunities.
We want to initiate a change in the mentality of all the clients that visit our shops. We want to create the opportunity for interaction between the public and people suffering from severe mental disorders. This is an opportunity to dismantle prejudices and nourish mutual trust in a safe environment.

- We evaluate our impact

Every year we evaluate the improvement in health and quality of life generated by our work. The benefits of a project like Moltacte can not be solely calculated in economic terms. The program is superfluous if it does not enhance the lives and health of the people involved.

ECONOMIC VALUES: INDISPENSABLE

- Creation of employment

Moltacte not only generates employment for people at risk of social exclusion, it also provides professionals an opportunity to supervise the operation of our shops.

- Economic profitability

Moltacte does not seek grants. We prefer partners and collaborators. The economic profitability of a project like ours ensures a sustainable model in the future and generates more possibilities for the integration of new partners.

- Experience

Moltacte began with an agreement between a social enterprise, a private company and local government. This agreement constitutes two historically reputable organizations in the social and cooperative fields: Taller Àuria and Teixidors. We know what we want and how to achieve our objectives.

- Solvency

Moltacte has agreements and strategic alliances with companies and institutions such as Catalunya Caixa, the Departament de Treball de la Generalitat de Catalunya, ESADE, the Ordre Hospitalari de Sant Joan of Déu, Unnim...

- Envisioning the future

Moltacte was created with the aspiration of expanding and reproducing a model that would facilitate growth. We want to further the diffusion of knowledge that is inherent in our model. From its origins Moltacte has demonstrated that it is a sustainable design.

MOLTACTE: OVERCOMING PREJUDICE AND OPENING MARKETS

By:  Momentum-Project

To buy is to obtain something with money. To sell is to earn money by offering something that is worth its value. In between comes everything that captivates consumers. The fashion industry is especially skilled in this art of seduction. Brands make the act of buying into a tireless aesthetic experience. The sales space is increasingly a stage full of suggestions appealing to a way of life, a different way of being; one that is likely, accessible, always refreshing. The customer buys the garment and takes home the promise of improvement and the guarantee that they are giving up nothing. Some days later, thanks to constant product rotation, this immersion can be experienced again.

MOLTACTE: OVERCOMING PREJUDICE AND OPENING MARKETS

The shopping experience in the textile markets is a measured and very sophisticated event for achieving a high turnover of product. Adding new items outside fashion, revising the key elements that allow the sale is difficult. It is transgressing a proven science.
People with severe mental illness (SMI) are the complete opposite to the production of a textile company. They have no social visibility. They practice discretion as a strategy of concealment. They look away to avoid being discovered. They elude spontaneous contact so that their responses and gestures do not betray them. They flee from others because others flee from them.

How about all of us meeting up buying clothes? This is Ana, Miquel and Jaumes’s proposal.

Moltacte was created in 2006 to give a visible and dignified work environment for people with severe mental disorders. The mechanism to achieve this would have to be a profitable company that would offer them a possibility of personal and professional development. So the multi-brand outlet Moltacte shops were created.
The three shops in this venture bring together top brands of the Spanish textile sector in the same space. The approach is novel. Brands that do not normally coexist in an outlet are comfortable under the umbrella of Moltacte. In addition, they feel comfortable with the assistants who have some form of mental disorder and them looking after, placing and offering their products to customers.

Miquel, Anne and James have managed to set up a retail space where all these ingredients are mixed with great naturalness and have made this an advantage for prestige brands. Moltacte offers a commercial dynamic that frees the surplus of past seasons clothes and ensures profitability, while making them participants in a project with a high social impact. Moltacte has already created 28 jobs, 15 of them for people with severe mental disorders.

The idea captivates and attracts commitment and adherence. Moltacte is a project that has as one of its pillars, the summing of interests, in dialogue and negotiation for companies and individuals to obtain their economic and social profit. Its promoters are experts in reconciling the needs and goals of many actors.

That these shops should operate in Manresa and Sant Boi de Llobregat today is possible thanks to the will of brands such as Scorpion, Naulover, Messcalino, Torres, Armand Basi, Meyers, Selvatgi or Dikto; to entities and local governments that have embraced this project as a vital part of the development of people with SMD, to family members who encouraged them to return to work, to customers who return to the shops and, above all, the team of employees with and without mental disorders who work in Moltacte every day.

Therein lies the greatest strength of a venture that aims so high as to want to show that there is another way of doing business, a way in which "everyone can win and be included". This deep conviction drives Moltacte to want to create social brand recognition and a large chain of shops taking their model to other places. Because it would create decent employment opportunities for people with severe mental illness and living spaces that would break with the fears and prejudices surrounding this group. Moltacte shops offer high quality garments at very affordable prices and a lesson in humanity that many more people should be able to experience.

cionamiento.

Moltacte the outlet without prejudice

Staff with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are not forced to hide . A clothing chain where brands suffer any severe mental disorder dependent and responsible for its exquisite and careful public relations. It is the existential position of Moltacte outlets , with more than half of the workforce with significant psychiatric care requirements .

Miquel Isanta , Oscar Miró and Juan Ruiz launched his company in 2007 . It joined the commercial values of the outlet , " a smart purchase of high quality and unique shopping experience based on genuine interest in listening and helping clients " with essential social values. The main focus on " cause a change in the mindset of all those who visit our stores. Since normal, dismantle prejudices and feed mutual trust . " Because they believe " in the capabilities of one of the most stigmatized groups in our society."
In Spain , only 5 % of health spending goes to mental health
Although the tendency is to act as if it were, mental illness is no stranger to anyone. If you do not touch the flesh , it is in the family , circle of friends , acquaintances, or in many other common environments.
According to the latest data from the Center of Biomedical Research in Mental Health , about four out of ten Europeans will suffer a psychiatric disorder throughout her life , more than 5 million people in Spain . 450 million people worldwide have a mental illness , accounting for 12.5 % of all ailments.
However, the lack of social conscience is joined by a major lack of governmental plans long-term action. Investment in mental health in the Spanish State is just 5% of total health expenditure , while the European average is about 20%.
80 % unemployment in the collective
The strike affects 80 % of people suffering from a serious mental disorder , according to the Spanish Confederation of Associations of Families and People with Mental Illness ( Feafes ) . In that case, decent employment is not only a right but a breach of therapeutic and social element of great magnitude to which they are deprived . In the words of Feafes , "You can lead a full and normal life , and that mental illness : no means less intellectual capacity does not imply chronicity or remain in an individual's life once developed , can be fully capable of making rational decisions their own lives, not stop working . "
This organization blames lack of intellectual curiosity and low cultural level to those who stigmatize . Also the absence of contact with reality becomes much more likely collective fears and prejudices. Hence the importance of breaking their invisibility and their role in promoting positive, as intended Moltacte .
Moltacte founders knew for years and shared his vision of the business world . And they did it in an advanced textile development community in the Catalan . In 2007 Miquel was manager of the Foundation Moli d'en Puigvert
with 25 years experience in therapeutic employment in the Maresme , Oscar worked as chief executive of Workshop Auria , cooperative Igualada that incorporates in its special employment center at 225 physical, mental and intellectual disabilities , and manager Juan exercised Teixidors , Terrace cooperative dedicated to the production of handmade textiles which trains people with learning difficulties.
The project began , in fact , selling products and Upholstery Teixidors Gancedo . But a few months later gave
its final turn towards the outlet of fashion brands in Manresa, which has since become a base of operations of the company. In this change has to do incorporating Artazcoz Ana , who came from the world of development cooperation , and saw Moltacte involvement in a charity project proximity .

Then come the signing of an agreement with the textile cluster Fagepi Igualada , which comprises more than 190 companies stitched textiles Scorpion Naulover , Messcalino , Torradas , Armand Basi, Yerse , Selvatgi or Diktons . Creating a unique children's clothing outlet and association with Mango and Inditex .

Awarded since its inception
In their shelves lie numerous awards : last year , received the Solidarity Award Moltacte ONCE . In 2011, the " looks " of the Manantial Foundation and was chosen as one of the ten most promising projects of Social Entrepreneurship in Spain , a total of 124, as part of the First Edition of Momentum Project. In 2009, he was given one of five Integra Awards . And only one year after its founding , in 2008 , collected the award Josep Maria Pinyol , awarded by the ' l' Acció Solidària against Atur ' Foundation.

Cultural Model

When we talk about model we refer to external description of reality but the perspective from which we stand to act. The model refers to the horizon that guides us, the framework that binds us to the world and from which we operate. The model is thus an inner guidance based on beliefs about what is desirable for us.

Our starting point is to contribute to building a society based on the commitment to others and responsibility for our actions and thoughts. An integrated and plural society that values differences as a richness and perceives each living as an image of everything. We see reality as fragmented rather interdependent web, a web of relationships in constant transformation which is part of everything that exists. People, forests and landscapes, animals and ecosystems.

Commitment / Responsibility
Integration / Plurality
Interdependence / Network of relationships

The fact that everything is interconnected indicates that we should be guided by the complexity, since we know linking ecological processes in human society, technological innovation personal growth, health and social justice. We must at all times be able to perceive the impact that a decision has in multiple directions. We must consider the interests of the planet and guide human society for the benefit of all.

Humane Society - Ecological Processes
Personal Growth - Technological innovation
Health - Social Justice

Vencer el estigma de la esquizofrenia con empleos

This entry was written by Ana Artazcoz of Moltacte. This project won the prize in 2011 Momentum Project at ESADE and BBVA. They have now opened a new store with the support of Inditex. The text that we offer today is a little personal reflection that explains perfectly the spirit of this inspiring initiative.

Image of a Moltacte stores.
Feared and disturbing by unknown. Sufferers have shared throughout history incomprensión.Necesitan rejection and diagnosis, treatment and medical monitoring, but also to continue relying on their capabilities. Therefore need to feel and be useful and the magic word for integration is 'work'.
For four years, our hope is gone specifying a social enterprise that tries to do things differently, Moltacte. We like to think that work is the place where everyone has the opportunity to experience personal growth. Each from their disabilities have something different to offer.
When you release the fear actually discovers that nothing is impossible. And with this thought we have been opening doors in these times of crisis model. An alliance with Inditex has allowed us to open our new store outlet Ambtacte Stradivarius in Manresa, which incorporates the team seven people with a diagnosis of mental illness. We try to reduce this painful stigma that are forced to live. The work becomes a magical place that dignifies them, returns them a place in this society and allows them to become positive news.

Testimony of Lourdes.

Lourdes was always locked in the room and had no incentive to do things. Suffering mental illness was his great obstacle. When he began working with the store Moltacte Sant Boi now three years ago, became part of a team, and began the process of leaving their frustrations. The evolution experienced was amazing. Work with the public made him greatly enhance your image and increase their self-esteem. Had the opportunity to meet new people and realize their ability to advise and help clients.

With the change that was living was able to take the step of going to live in a group home. The fact came to work generated a routine for her and made her lose the fear to move independently on public transport. Teachers, doctors, psychologists are surprised of great change.

His parents say they've gone from having a daughter who did not want to do anything and was totally stuck to a more independent person capable of taking charge of your own life.

People with mental illness need to feel and be useful and to integrate magic word is 'work'. Each from their disabilities have something different to offer.

The crisis has forced to close shop in Sant Boi, but Lourdes has shown us that all this effort really makes sense.

-Focus on cultural models as a basis for the organization.

-Consistency as a common thread throughout.

The task-and context as a means of personal development.

Key aspect of the model:

• The importance of "how"

• A people-centered experiential model.

• Invalid model for all people.

• Model requires time and dedication but it ensures consistency.

Case Studies of Project Momentum 2011:

Moltacte, a year marked by the creation of jobs and the alliance with Inditex

Moltacte was presented to the first edition of Momentum Project with a very clear objective: "to create jobs healers". That is, grow and open market to continue to employ people with severe mental illness (SMI). 2012 has been for them a successful year for its alliance with Inditex and overcoming expectations regarding job creation figures.
Moltacte, a chain of "boutique outlets" multibrand entered Momentum Project 2011 supported by the achievement of having launched three brand clothing stores at affordable prices, in Manresa and Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), who were giving work 28 people, 15 of them with TMS. However, its leaders did not want to stay there and through training, support and funding they received during their time at Momentum Project, got the tools to be able to scale your project.
And they're getting.
Alliance with Inditex
"The major milestones this year 2012 to Moltacte were: resist and grow," explains Miquel Isanta, Moltacte manager. "From a staff of 28 employees, we have moved to 36, 18 of whom are people with TMS, above a target marked on the Growth Plan for 2013.
Furthermore, it has managed to maintain the level of sales of existing surfaces and has increased the overall turnover with the opening of a new outlet. "
This new store is the first store "Stradivarius outlet for & from ambtacte" Inditex, in collaboration with Moltacte, launched in Manresa. "The opening of the new store of 185 square meters, has exceeded previous forecasts of sales," confirms Isanta.
"It has generated an occupation that is above twice the expected."
This success, Miquel Isanta recognizes the influence of Momentum, "there are relationships between companies that one should irrigate and care for many years and comes a day fruiting. Momentum Project has favored fruiting of the relationship between Moltacte and Inditex group. " And not only that, as this social entrepreneur, "the training, support, visibility and funding which has brought us Momentum has generated reports in the press, radio and television, awards and important relationships with brands, not forgetting that we have woven
the rest of the participating projects. "
Social Awareness
The crisis, paradoxically, is helping to get Moltacte Another positive: the public value more social impact it generates. "We have chosen not commercially heading a militant social conscience say," explains Isanta. "Once the customer has been shopping experience with a reputed brand at an affordable price, a very careful staging, good service in unusual formats outlet and also learns that this is a project
with social impact, it is then linked with him emotionally. "
The future for 2013 is optimistic and already has a name "Social Moltacte Outlet Shopping." "We are developing this concept in cities with strong commercial appeal in which that are grouped together in one area, four or more outlets Moltacte". Figueras, Girona, is spearheading this project.

A social impact

A social impact "quality"

By Sophie Robin, founding partner of Stone Soup Consulting

In the various forums in which I participated, often coming back again and again the same question: Are social enterprises generate more social impact of companies 'traditional'? At the end of the day, all companies have a social impact as they help to create jobs, boost local economies, and so on. And if they do so responsibly then, larger companies will have no social impact social enterprises?

Social enterprises supported by Momentum in 2011 employed a total of 351 people - 75% were people at risk of exclusion, and generated total revenues of EUR 8.7 million. Seen this way, their cumulative contribution to the country's economy is equivalent to that of an SME ... So what impact do such business in society who do not have traditional businesses?
The secret is to not only look at the figures, if not the story behind each number. Reach many beneficiaries are not enough. We must do it the best way possible! Substitute quality for quantity is the social entrepreneur's motivation when thrown into the adventure. Your challenge is to associate the quantity to quality when it is proposed to scale their social business model.
In companies supported by Momentum engaged the employment of people with disabilities, it is estimated that about 80% of beneficiaries of social action are in their jobs and the company I work a key element of its rehabilitation and personal stability. That is, the social impact is in the center of its corporate mission. For this reason, the "theory of change" is so fundamental to social enterprise: allows to better understand how the company addresses a particular problem in society and the social value generated by their work.
For example, one might be tempted to summarize the social impact of Moltacte saying that employs 16 people with severe mental illness. However, providing Moltacte to break the stigma and marginalization of this illness goes far beyond a job number. On the one hand, they are jobs in which the patient really is rehabilitated through responsibility, appreciation for his contribution to the smooth running of the store and its direct relationship with customers. On the other hand, breaks down barriers and prejudices of many people through their shopping experience.
We do not want to say, with this, that to ensure quality social enterprises can not scale their impact and reach a large number of people. Small and medium enterprises supported by Momentum may one day become big business for success. Quantity and quality are not irreconcilable, but it is certainly a major challenge for growth in social enterprises and more so for companies working in social inclusion.
The key to not losing the quality of impact to grow, is to understand very well the secret of every social enterprise and what it does that can transform reality for the better. Make sure that these key elements of their identity and social success are present in the proposed growth.
Momentum exists to assist in this process.

Manresa Palau Firal

Moltacte has been invited to participate in the conference to be held in Manresa, on Friday April 20, 2012.

Isanta Miguel has attempted to answer the question: what makes a person decides to embark on a journey of social entrepreneurship at a time of crisis?

The hazards, meaningful coincidences, synchronicities .... everything but the fruit of reasonable action ... "great things are daughters of chance" said Joan Maragall, and Machado, Rilke, Niestchze, Goethe. ....

Moving from work obligation to work for win.

With ingredients such as passion, what I do and I like to do, and a pinch of values.

And now the meaningful work, just the engine was able to see all life as Victor Frankl, a psychiatrist at the Nazi concentration camp.
That person whose life had a meaning, survived a situation beyond all limits, while a person better equipped physically but meaningless in his life died.

And the positive aspects of fear and doubt that inevitably arise as such before deciding later.
Fear, insecurity and conflict between the desire, as defined by Lanza del Vasto.
And the aspects of open-mindedness of the doubt, an attitude essential to capture the new.

Taboo  1: create a company that over 50% of the workforce suffer mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar). Taboo  2: the business of the company (outlet stores) assume that people with mental illness meet the public. Taboo  3: that the team's salary is reduced by 50% to ensure the survival of the company. These are some of the taboos are breaking Moltacte, which follows the footsteps of other flagship projects such as La Fageda or Teixidors.
"We were on the brink of the abyss and decided to take a step forward," this phrase authorship issue, it is heard over a year ago Cristóbal Colon, the founder of La Fageda. Surely it is a phrase that share dozens, hundreds of Spanish businessmen in these uncertain times.
The fact is that Cristóbal used it to explain that when in 1982 he founded the social enterprise had nothing to lose, the other option was that dozens of people with mental illness with which he planned to create an agricultural cooperative in Girona return to asylums or locked into their homes.
The other day, Ana Artacoz, one of the founders and directors of Moltacte, told me that one of the workers (also with mental illness) of your company, when asked in a radio "If you were not working, what would you do?" , said "Being locked in my room."
Moltacte is a social enterprise focused on the outlet business: in October 2008 opened the first of his three stores. Today operates two dedicated to women's clothing, one located in Manresa and one in Sant Boi de Llobregat, and third, in Manresa, aimed at baby clothes. The center's staff, 27 people, 15 of them with mental illness.
Like La Fageda, have never used their social project as a marketing tool, have focused on providing a great product at a great price, but now have changed.
What happens is that workers themselves are the ones we claim that it is well that the media take out only negative news from the group of people with mental illness, we had to generate positive news and to present the capabilities of the people. They want to be visible.
So Moltacte, coinciding also with its participation in initiatives such as Project Momentum, has decided to send a message to society: they too can and want, check it out. Ana says:
In three years has not been a single problem, clients are greeted.
Of course, those three years are supported by strong business and social project. In Moltacté, employees with mental illness have the support of a psychologist and a social worker, who set the rules to follow and career goals. One of these objectives is to encourage workers to take responsibility for the store. At Manresa, the two shops are 50 meters away.
Some people take three years and workers can be left alone. We believe in your abilities and can be alone. For four months we are working on this and it works great. They feel they have greater responsibility and that motivates them.
The work is the beginning of everything and changes everything.
Your workplace, relationship has changed dramatically. At first it came with some sunglasses to protect themselves, as if they do not see. Now I know clients by name, know them and advise them. They have also created a group of friends among them.
Moltacte, like all companies, are fitting as can the blows of the crisis.

Momentum Project presented a growth plan based on two new stores and got the funding (not free), but have decided to park that idea, reduce costs (the management team salary has dropped by 50%) and focus on a new business.
In the reception centers for 2,200 children living Catalonia. They have a budget to allocate clothing needs and are looking for very low prices and quality are very low, and have to buy very large quantities. We did an analysis and found that the time it takes to buy the products for each child is enormous and it is time left to be with them. We moved and contacted with different brands. We are just beginning.
Projects of social enterprises as Moltacte or Teixidors The Fageda or have several features that unite and differentiate them from any business project: at birth had nothing to lose. The 150 people with mental illness The Fageda, the Moltacte 15, and 34 people with intellectual disabilities Teixidors not only have not lost anything, I have won everything.

MOLTACTE: A GREAT BUSINESS AGAINST SOCIAL EXCLUSION

By: Gonzalo Fanjul | December 1, 2011

They opened their first store in October 2008, just weeks after the official start of the crisis, and filled with workers with serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. It seems the recipe for success. And yet, MOLTACTE (tactfully, in Catalan) is a symbol of social courage and entrepreneurial flair. Three years after its launch, the company women's clothing and children has opened two new stores, sold 32,000 pieces with a turnover of € 650,000 per year and employs 29 disabled workers.

"When we created the cooperative MOLTACTE 4 years ago, was based on this. Our only asset was the illusion that we put the three people who join us in this adventure to the time for a new business model. Our dream was that all we improved our quality of life. A space to grow as professionals and as people, a place where everyone is valued for their abilities and not their limitations, a chance to do things differently. "

In his few years of life, and in the midst of a crisis anthological MOLTACTE has consolidated a new business model that offers alternative employment to a social group with more integration difficulties. His project involves combining two very different interests: those of mental health services, seeking mechanisms to complete the integration process of the sick, and those of clothing brands and sites looking for suitable channels for their products. At Manresa, for example, MOLTACTE works in coordination with the Mosaic program that combines psychiatric treatment, employment workshops and job counseling. With them can track ongoing situation of each of the workers who operate stores in completely normal conditions and with a permanent contract. A work environment that dignifies people and break the stigma surrounding severe mental disorders.

"Our three stores in one space together apparel textile brands of Spanish as a Scorpio, Meyers, Naulover, Messcalino, Towers, Anna Diktons or Mora. The approach has been described as novel and innovative. Brands that do not normally coexist in an outlet are comfortable under the umbrella of MOLTACTE. In addition, they feel comfortable with the care of dependents, place and offer their products to customers with some kind of mental disorder. "

The crisis has beaten this company like the rest of the sector. But the response of its promoters has not been to seek the shelter of a public aid which they would not, but to tighten their belts with salary reductions and seek alternative strategies. A series of agreements with foster homes for children, for example, they are allowing large amounts of offering quality clothing at good prices, solving a major step logistic centers.

The challenge for the coming years is the sustainability and expansion of the model. Reach other parts of Spain, but also consider other products such as appliances or perfumery. This will be supported Momemtum Project initiative, ESADE and BBVA, who helped them in their pregnancy and they have selected the top 10 social innovators of the year. MOLTACTE is a moving example of what a combination of courage and good ideas can be made against the social crisis.

If you disagree, Facebook Support them and help them spread the word. Its stores are in Manresa and Sant Boi.

A company with social objectives can be a business. But backwards. This is intended to prove that last week the nine social enterprises selected by Momentum Project, an initiativeBBVA and Esade driven and in which the Foundation works PwC, who met on campus BBVA La Moraleja in Madrid to celebrate the Social Investment Day. That is, the time when company representatives presented their projects to potential financiers expansion after the training phase Esade and business plan development. Then students will work the business school in the implementation of the strategy for 10 weeks in the social enterprise, accompanied by the mentors.

One by one they were going to the auditorium, an exhibition of about seven minutes, these representatives to tell the origin of the company, what they do, their social characteristics and the purpose of funding required. After each intervention, the three members of the scientific committee gave comments on the strengths and weaknesses of the projects.

Solidarity Catering, which provides work for women victims of violence, was one of the companies. Raised a need for funding of 300,000 euros. The intervention of hisrepresentative was perhaps the most emotional of the day. Dau, which promotes employment of persons with serious mental disorders, requested funding of 871,000 euros. Great Valley Welfare staff for home care of dependents. The Tavella has among its employees to people with intellectual disability and the request for funding amounted to 244,366 euros.

Moltacte, whose employees have severe mental illness, asked 150,000 euros, and Roba Amiga, which collects used clothing and, after treating it, sells it, asked for 950,000 euros. Sostre Cívic is dedicated to developing the management model of use (MCU) from the building and raised a need for funding of 350,000 euros. Teixidors, which welcomes people with learning difficulties called for 403,300 euros.

Social Investment Day en Momentum Project

Social Investment Day en Momentum Project

After a training period, the social entrepreneur schemes selected by Momentum Project present their business development plans in a bid to raise finance and continue growing. They have met this week at BBVA’s La Moraleja Campus and today have presented their business development projects to potential investors at the “Social Investment Day.”  BBVA intends to set up an investment vehicle before the end of the year, selecting Momentum’s most promising social enterprises for funding through long-term (8 years), subsidized participating loans.

Attending the ceremony, in addition to representatives of the schemes and investors, were BBVA President COO Ángel Cano, BBVA Spain and Portugal Director Juan Asúa; BBVA Head of Communication and Branding Gregorio Panadero; ESADE Director of University Programs Alfred Vernis; and BBVA Director of Corporate Responsibility Antoni Ballabriga.

The social entrepreneurs not only work to boost profits, but they also want to leave their mark on society. This was the main driver behind ESADE’s and BBVA’s decision to start up an initiative to promote social entrepreneurship in Spain. In spite of ongoing financing crisis, the 10 schemes taking part in this project increased revenue by 15% in 2010.

Momentum Project wants to have a greater direct impact on society and to create jobs. In this vein, more than 460 people entered the job market last year through the program’s social enterprises, with either the companies themselves offering jobs or helping them find work at other similar organizations. Of those working in the social entrepreneur schemes, 83% are at a risk of social exclusion, as immigrants with a precarious status, battered women or people with a physical or mental impairment.

Make the world a better place. Why not?

The number of jobs given to people at risk of social exclusion increased by 12% in 2010. For the Director of University Programs of ESADE, Alfred Vernis, this means that business can be created in a different way: “These companies are creating quality employment for people who can barely make ends meet.”

Momentum Project offers people the chance to access a positive working environment predicated on training and preparing workers to face their daily challenges. That’s why 77% of the social action’s beneficiaries believe their jobs and companies are crucial to their personal rehabilitation and stability.

For the Director of Corporate Responsibility at BBVA, Antoni Ballabriga, it is important to foster initiatives likes this one: “Not only do we intend to support project training and orientation, but we also want to open up investment opportunities so that these social entrepreneur schemes can grow scale their businesses.”

In this respect, aware of the new needs for private investment, BBVA Private Banking is promoting a vehicle that will allow for impact investing that combines economic sustainability and social value creation. It will start this vehicle before the end of the year, selecting the Momentum’s most promising enterprises and financing them through long-term (8 years), subsidized participating loans.

Collective impact

Networking is a key ingredient to the success of a social entrepreneur scheme. Some of Momentum Project’s schemes already work on average with another 59 institutions. An example is Roba Amiga (a cooperative set up to collect used clothing), which brings together five insertion companies in a second-tier cooperative. Similarly, Catering Solidario (a company that employs battered women) and Sostre Cívic (an institution that provides access to homes) are working together to build housing co-ops in Seville for women suffering from domestic violence.

A large number of people have already shown interest in this housing alternative. At the same time, visits by schools and public administrations to learn about institutions such as DAU (manufacturing pharmaceutical laboratory) and Teixidors (fabric cooperative) have increased.

Business development project

With the ESADE training phase over and the business plan designed, the entrepreneurs met this week at the BBVA La Moraleja Campus in Madrid to present their business development plans to companies and potential investors at the “Social Investment Day.” In a next phase, students of the businesses school will help roll out the strategy over a period fo 10 weeks at the social enterprise together with their mentors.

The goal of the Momentum Project entrepreneur schemes is to double the number of beneficiaries -504 at present 504- by 2014 and to expand their business. For this, they need to raise €3.9 million of financing.

The financing needs of each project relate mainly to the following growth strategies:

  • Catering Solidario: to give job opportunities over the next five years to 300 women who have suffered abuse. The aim is to build a warehouse with an industrial kitchen, expand the team and undertake a market strategy targeting public institutions.
  • DAU: to open a new business line: primary packaging of pharmaceutical products; i.e. blistering and unit-dose packaging, and in cosmetics; filling and sealing cosmetic tubes.
  • Gran Vallés Asistencial: to solidify its status as the leading company in its field in Sabadell and replicate the business model in other towns of Vallés (Occidental and Oriental), opening up a new headquarters in the city of Granollers.
  • Hornos Lamastelle: to undertake initiatives aimed at improving communication, and distributing and boosting production capacity.
  • La Tavella: to upgrade and expand infrastructure in order to raise production and to implement a computerized management system.
  • Moltacte: to strengthen the existing stores and spread the store chain by opening two new sales outlets in 2012.
  • Roba Amiga: to set up a new textile waste treatment plant around Barcelona with the aim of increasing the number of jobs through social insertion.
  • Sostre Cívic: to carry out refurbishment projects in the short-to-medium term and a new construction project. Half will go to integrate groups at the risk of social exclusion.
  • Teixidors: to achieve €1.2 million of revenue in 2015, mainly by expanding abroad.

"The company, within ten years, will be social or not." The event is recorded in the brain Miguel Isanta in a while. More than just a phrase, is a way to understand your business, Moltacte, a premium brand outlet where people with mental work.

Moltacte born in October 2006 with its first store in Manresa. Even then, "the main idea was to provide employment opportunities to people with mental disorders and make it compatible with profitability as a business," explains Isanta telephone conversation with PressDigital.

"We want to make profits, but do so at any price," he adds. "We want to generate quality of life and offering second chances, both people with mental health problems for which there is no easy insertion into the labor market, such as those garments which, for whatever reason, the marks could not sell during the season. "

And it is Moltactetop brand outlet of second opportunities. Five years ago the opening and can say that the anniversary may do so with a smile: they already have three stores and two at Manresa and Sant Boi de Llobregat, and last year turnover of 620,000 euros. So far they have gone they have been selected for the Momentum Project organized by BBVA and ESADE, and seeks the ten social entrepreneurship projects further.

Isanta, which grow very quickly rather than opt to consolidate the business, is very clear that the current "economic tsunami 'will have consequences for the way companies work. And remember the phrase "within ten years, companies will be social or not.

Our shop in Sant Boi

Our shop in Sant Boi

The “Viure a Sant Boi” newspaper, published by the council of this city in Baix Llobregat, echoed the opening of our latest shop dedicated to women's fashion in an article entitled "Quality Trading with social interest". This new shop represents an evolution in our business ideas and is a perfect example of how our values are reflected in a project with a future.

"Moltacte, the business of second chances"

This was the title of one of the leading Catalan daily newspapers, the “Avui”, in an article dedicated to Moltacte in which it described our project, its values and its future potential. The article by Laia Bruguera demonstrates the extent to which social economy projects such as Moltacte are awakening the interest of society as viable alternatives for improving the lives of people. Moltacte seeks to offer, as the title of the Avui article indicates, a second chance for products and also for people.
