Moltacte not only generates employment for people at risk of social exclusion, it also provides professionals an opportunity to supervise the operation of our shops. 

- Economic profitability 

Moltacte does not seek grants. We prefer partners and collaborators. The economic profitability of a project like ours ensures a sustainable model in the future and generates more possibilities for the integration of new partners. 

- Experience 

Moltacte began with an agreement between a social enterprise, a private company and local government. This agreement constitutes two historically reputable organizations in the social and cooperative fields: Taller Àuria and Teixidors. We know what we want and how to achieve our objectives. 

 

- Solvency 

Moltacte has agreements and strategic alliances with companies and institutions such as Catalunya Caixa, the Departament de Treball de la Generalitat de Catalunya, ESADE, the Ordre Hospitalari de Sant Joan of Déu, Unnim...

To buy is to obtain something with money. To sell is to earn money by offering something that is worth its value. In between comes everything that captivates consumers. The fashion industry is especially skilled in this art of seduction. Brands make the act of buying into a tireless aesthetic experience. The sales space is increasingly a stage full of suggestions appealing to a way of life, a different way of being; one that is likely, accessible, always refreshing. The customer buys the garment and takes home the promise of improvement and the guarantee that they are giving up nothing. Some days later, thanks to constant product rotation, this immersion can be experienced again.

MOLTACTE: OVERCOMING PREJUDICE AND OPENING MARKETS

The shopping experience in the textile markets is a measured and very sophisticated event for achieving a high turnover of product. Adding new items outside fashion, revising the key elements that allow the sale is difficult. It is transgressing a proven science.
People with severe mental illness (SMI) are the complete opposite to the production of a textile company. They have no social visibility. They practice discretion as a strategy of concealment. They look away to avoid being discovered. They elude spontaneous contact so that their responses and gestures do not betray them. They flee from others because others flee from them.

How about all of us meeting up buying clothes? This is Ana, Miquel and Jaumes’s proposal.

Moltacte was created in 2006 to give a visible and dignified work environment for people with severe mental disorders. The mechanism to achieve this would have to be a profitable company that would offer them a possibility of personal and professional development. So the multi-brand outlet Moltacte shops were created.
The three shops in this venture bring together top brands of the Spanish textile sector in the same space. The approach is novel. Brands that do not normally coexist in an outlet are comfortable under the umbrella of Moltacte. In addition, they feel comfortable with the assistants who have some form of mental disorder and them looking after, placing and offering their products to customers.

Miquel, Anne and James have managed to set up a retail space where all these ingredients are mixed with great naturalness and have made this an advantage for prestige brands. Moltacte offers a commercial dynamic that frees the surplus of past seasons clothes and ensures profitability, while making them participants in a project with a high social impact. Moltacte has already created 28 jobs, 15 of them for people with severe mental disorders.

The idea captivates and attracts commitment and adherence. Moltacte is a project that has as one of its pillars, the summing of interests, in dialogue and negotiation for companies and individuals to obtain their economic and social profit. Its promoters are experts in reconciling the needs and goals of many actors.

That these shops should operate in Manresa and Sant Boi de Llobregat today is possible thanks to the will of brands such as Scorpion, Naulover, Messcalino, Torres, Armand Basi, Meyers, Selvatgi or Dikto; to entities and local governments that have embraced this project as a vital part of the development of people with SMD, to family members who encouraged them to return to work, to customers who return to the shops and, above all, the team of employees with and without mental disorders who work in Moltacte every day.

Therein lies the greatest strength of a venture that aims so high as to want to show that there is another way of doing business, a way in which "everyone can win and be included". This deep conviction drives Moltacte to want to create social brand recognition and a large chain of shops taking their model to other places. Because it would create decent employment opportunities for people with severe mental illness and living spaces that would break with the fears and prejudices surrounding this group. Moltacte shops offer high quality garments at very affordable prices and a lesson in humanity that many more people should be able to experience.

Moltacte was presented to the first edition of Momentum Project with a very clear objective: "to create jobs healers". That is, grow and open market to continue to employ people with severe mental illness (SMI). 2012 has been for them a successful year for its alliance with Inditex and overcoming expectations regarding job creation figures.
Moltacte, a chain of "boutique outlets" multibrand entered Momentum Project 2011 supported by the achievement of having launched three brand clothing stores at affordable prices, in Manresa and Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), who were giving work 28 people, 15 of them with TMS. However, its leaders did not want to stay there and through training, support and funding they received during their time at Momentum Project, got the tools to be able to scale your project.

"The major milestones this year 2012 to Moltacte were: resist and grow," explains Miquel Isanta, Moltacte manager. "From a staff of 28 employees, we have moved to 36, 18 of whom are people with TMS, above a target marked on the Growth Plan for 2013.

A social impact "quality"

In the various forums in which I participated, often coming back again and again the same question: Are social enterprises generate more social impact of companies 'traditional'? At the end of the day, all companies have a social impact as they help to create jobs, boost local economies, and so on. And if they do so responsibly then, larger companies will have no social impact social enterprises?

Social enterprises supported by Momentum in 2011 employed a total of 351 people - 75% were people at risk of exclusion, and generated total revenues of EUR 8.7 million. Seen this way, their cumulative contribution to the country's economy is equivalent to that of an SME ... So what impact do such business in society who do not have traditional businesses?
The secret is to not only look at the figures, if not the story behind each number. Reach many beneficiaries are not enough. We must do it the best way possible! Substitute quality for quantity is the social entrepreneur's motivation when thrown into the adventure. Your challenge is to associate the quantity to quality when it is proposed to scale their social business model.
In companies supported by Momentum engaged the employment of people with disabilities, it is estimated that about 80% of beneficiaries of social action are in their jobs and the company I work a key element of its rehabilitation and personal stability. That is, the social impact is in the center of its corporate mission. For this reason, the "theory of change" is so fundamental to social enterprise: allows to better understand how the company addresses a particular problem in society and the social value generated by their work.
For example, one might be tempted to summarize the social impact of Moltacte saying that employs 16 people with severe mental illness. However, providing Moltacte to break the stigma and marginalization of this illness goes far beyond a job number. On the one hand, they are jobs in which the patient really is rehabilitated through responsibility, appreciation for his contribution to the smooth running of the store and its direct relationship with customers. On the other hand, breaks down barriers and prejudices of many people through their shopping experience.
We do not want to say, with this, that to ensure quality social enterprises can not scale their impact and reach a large number of people. Small and medium enterprises supported by Momentum may one day become big business for success. Quantity and quality are not irreconcilable, but it is certainly a major challenge for growth in social enterprises and more so for companies working in social inclusion.
The key to not losing the quality of impact to grow, is to understand very well the secret of every social enterprise and what it does that can transform reality for the better. Make sure that these key elements of their identity and social success are present in the proposed growth.

These are some of the taboos are breaking Moltacte, which follows the footsteps of other flagship projects such as La Fageda or Teixidors.
"We were on the brink of the abyss and decided to take a step forward," this phrase authorship issue, it is heard over a year ago Cristóbal Colon, the founder of La Fageda. Surely it is a phrase that share dozens, hundreds of Spanish businessmen in these uncertain times.
The fact is that Cristóbal used it to explain that when in 1982 he founded the social enterprise had nothing to lose, the other option was that dozens of people with mental illness with which he planned to create an agricultural cooperative in Girona return to asylums or locked into their homes.
The other day, Ana Artacoz, one of the founders and directors of Moltacte, told me that one of the workers (also with mental illness) of your company, when asked in a radio "If you were not working, what would you do?" , said "Being locked in my room."
Moltacte is a social enterprise focused on the outlet business: in October 2008 opened the first of his three stores. Today operates two dedicated to women's clothing, one located in Manresa and one in Sant Boi de Llobregat, and third, in Manresa, aimed at baby clothes. The center's staff, 27 people, 15 of them with mental illness.
Like La Fageda, have never used their social project as a marketing tool, have focused on providing a great product at a great price, but now have changed.
What happens is that workers themselves are the ones we claim that it is well that the media take out only negative news from the group of people with mental illness, we had to generate positive news and to present the capabilities of the people. They want to be visible.
So Moltacte, coinciding also with its participation in initiatives such as Project Momentum, has decided to send a message to society: they too can and want, check it out. Ana says:
In three years has not been a single problem, clients are greeted.
Of course, those three years are supported by strong business and social project. In Moltacté, employees with mental illness have the support of a psychologist and a social worker, who set the rules to follow and career goals. One of these objectives is to encourage workers to take responsibility for the store. At Manresa, the two shops are 50 meters away.
Some people take three years and workers can be left alone. We believe in your abilities and can be alone. For four months we are working on this and it works great. They feel they have greater responsibility and that motivates them.
The work is the beginning of everything and changes everything.
Your workplace, relationship has changed dramatically. At first it came with some sunglasses to protect themselves, as if they do not see. Now I know clients by name, know them and advise them. They have also created a group of friends among them.
Moltacte, like all companies, are fitting as can the blows of the crisis.
 
Momentum Project presented a growth plan based on two new stores and got the funding (not free), but have decided to park that idea, reduce costs (the management team salary has dropped by 50%) and focus on a new business.

They have a budget to allocate clothing needs and are looking for very low prices and quality are very low, and have to buy very large quantities.
